
Axel Drieling (Germany)
Axel Drieling, born in 1966, is working for the Faserinstitut Bremen e.V. (Fibre Institute Bremen, Germany) since finishing his diploma in Production Engineering in 1996. The Fibre Institute is a scientific institute at the University of Bremen, working on the topic areas:
- Fibre and fibre product testing / testing harmonisation
- Development and production of fibre reinforced plastics (carbon as well as natural fibres)
- Fibre development
Axel Drieling is responsible for the Testing Methods Department as well as for all cotton related topics, and is member of the Institute’s Executive Board.
As part of his engagement for the Fibre Institute, he was e.g. working as a consultant for UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and the GTZ (German Technical Cooperation). He is responsible for the Round Tests executed at the Institute as the Bremen Cotton Round Trial. In co-operation with the Bremen Cotton Exchange he is organizing the biannual International Cotton Conference in Bremen.
Regarding his activities for the harmonisation of cotton and fibre testing, he is
- Vice Chairman of the ITMF International Committee on Cotton Testing Methods (ICCTM), and coordinator of its Length Task Force
- Member of the ICAC Task Force on Commercial Standardization of Instrument Testing of Cotton (CSITC)
- Member of the Management Committee of INTERWOOLLABS, the International Association of Wool Textile Laboratories
- Member of the German Materials Testing Standards Committee for Textiles (DIN NA 062-05-21)
